Brian Mills served as CEO of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) and Superintendent of Financial Services for Ontario from October 2014 until June 2019, when he completed the wind up of FSCO in connection with the transition of its supervisory mandate to Ontario’s new Financial Services Regulatory Authority. Over a 39-year career in the public and private sectors, Brian has also been a policy advisor with several Ontario government ministries, Vice President of Pension Administration at the Ontario Pension Board and a Managing Partner at Towers Perrin (now Willis Towers Watson) with responsibility for operations in Canada, Europe, Australia and Latin America. Brian has an honours degree in Economics from Queen’s University.
“Brian brings to the Board a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise in pension governance and administration” said Lesley Gallinger, Board Chair. “We are delighted to welcome Brian and look forward to working with him to make pension plan membership available to more workers in Ontario and across Canada”.
Members of the Blue Pier Retirement Plan are fortunate to have a pension plan administered by a Board with deep expertise in corporate and pension governance, financial management, public administration, social and economic policy development, charitable and non-profit organizational management, parliamentary and legislative procedure and regulatory oversight. Brian joins Lesley Gallinger (Chair & Trustee), Konrad von Finckenstein (Vice Chair & Trustee), William B.P. Robson (Trustee) and the Hon. Art Eggleton, P.C. (Trustee).
“One thing I’ve learned over my career is that pension coverage and good governance matter. Workers who participate in well-governed plans that operate in their interests retire better and with less worry” said Brian Mills. “Today, most workers don’t get the opportunity to join a pension plan. I’m very much looking forward to working with my fellow Board members to change that. Blue Pier is an innovative and much-needed approach to solving the coverage conundrum and I’m delighted to join the Blue Pier team.”
