Blue Pier Welcomes New Director and Advisors

(Toronto: November 20, 2019) Blue Pier™ is pleased to to announce the appointment of Dr. Stephen Milone as a Director and Drs. Ana Andreazza, Stephanie Milone, and Cecil Hahn as Advisors.

Stephen Milone – Director
Dr. Stephen Milone is an anesthesiologist at Headwaters Health Care Centre and William Osler Health Centre – Brampton Civic Hospital and formerly a practitioner of family medicine in Orangeville, Ontario.  Stephen is a mentor to medical students, residents, and other physicians, and is the Site Director for the University of Toronto Family Medicine Rural Residency Program.  He is the recipient of both the Community Teacher of the Year and Ontario Family Physician of the Year awards (Ontario College of Family Physicians) and Preceptor of the Year award (Rural Ontario Medical Program).  He co-founded a medical mission in Northern India and is a strong community advocate having raised funds for the local hospital and supporting initiatives like local shelters.  Stephen holds B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc., and M.D. degrees from the University of Toronto, and postgraduate family medicine and anesthesia diplomas from Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario).

Stephanie Milone – Advisor
Dr. Stephanie Milone practices Emergency Medicine at the Headwaters Health Care Centre and is a family physician in Orangeville, Ontario. She mentors to medical students, residents, and other physicians, and is the Site Director for the University of Toronto Family Medicine Rural Residency Program. Dr. Milone is the recipient of both the Community Teacher of the Year and Ontario Family Physician of the Year awards (Ontario College of Family Physicians) and Preceptor of the Year award (Rural Ontario Medical Program). She co-founded a medical mission in Northern India and has worked to fundraise for local hospital and local shelter initiatives.

Ana Andreazza – Advisor
Dr. Ana Andreazza is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology & Toxicology and Psychiatry with the University of Toronto and holds a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Molecular Pharmacology of Mood Disorders. With over 140 published research articles, Dr. Andreazza is the recipient of several awards including the 2018 Canada Top 40 under 40. Her research focuses on the understanding of the role of redox modulations and mitochondrial dysfunction in mental illness, especially in mood disorders. She was also recently appointed the Thomas C. Zachos Chair in Mitochondrial Research. She has a strong interest in the potential impacts of financial stress on individuals’ brain health.

Cecil Hahn – Advisor
Dr. Cecil Hahn is a paediatric neurologist at The Hospital for Sick Children and Associate Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto specializing in epilepsy and neurocritical care. He cares for children with complex epilepsy and directs the hospital’s critical care EEG monitoring program. Dr. Hahn’s research group develops and validates innovative brain monitoring techniques and studies the contribution of seizures to brain injury among critically ill children. He has served as President of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society and the Canadian Association of Child Neurology.
